Zero Knowledge Proof in Coq

Hi everyone, first time poster, so pardon me if I missed any etiquette. Now coming to the question, I posted a question on Crypto StackExchange related to zero-knowledge-proof in Coq which I ended up answering myself. I am wondering if my understanding of Special Honest Verifier Zero-Knowledge-Proof is correct or not. Also, any thing which you think would be helpful in improving the modelling or in general any other point please feel free to let me know.

Security of non-standard use for AES-256-CTR?

I'm a user of 1Password's subscription hosted account service. They encrypt a user’s data using a Master Password, which the user memorizes, and a 128-bit, 34 character Secret Key, which is saved locally on each authenticated device and which they recommend printing out and storing securely for recovery in the event that all of the user's devices are lost.
I'd like to come up with a way to securely store my Secret Key on my Yubikey. This would be more accessible than a piece of paper in a safety deposit box, and more durable than a piece of paper in my wallet, so that I might access my account credentials if my devices were stolen while traveling. I don't want to have to be constantly vigilant about the physical security of the Yubikey itself, so I'd like to encrypt the Secret Key first. I think I have a solution, but I'd like confirmation that it is secure.
(I also posted this question to the Crypto StackExchange, but initially omitted context that I didn't realize was important. I’ve tried to clarify, but that format makes the discussion difficult to follow.)
A Yubikey has two "slots" that can be configured for different purposes using their Personalization Tool. I'm using one for 2FA, but I'd like to use the other in Static Password mode. While the Advanced configuration for this mode can contain 64 modhex characters, the user cannot choose the password so this does not match my use case. The alternative is the Scan Code configuration which can store up to 38 ASCII 256 characters. I can select either US or DE keyboard; as I understand it, this determines the scan codes that are emitted to correspond to my saved password, and a US keyboard will work for me.
The trick, then, is how to encrypt the 34-character Secret Key for storage in the 38-character Yubikey slot. I'd like to use OpenSSL v1.0.1+’s implementation of aes-256-ctr to encrypt the secret for storage on the Yubikey. I am asking about using a counter cipher rather than an alternative because I need for the output to have roughly the same number of bytes as the input. Because the Secret Key is in base64, and because base64 characters are a subset of ASCII, it seemed simplest to stick with base64. So, starting with a sample Secret Key:
A3-R69SQK-TZ9KPW-8MXYD-6W373-V7GHJ-EDJQW
I can run the following, after removing the dashes and adding pluses at the end to reach 36 characters, because the second command process input by multiples of four characters. I also need to decode the input from base64 first so that it's using the bytes efficiently, and then encode it as base64 again after the encryption so that the result can be "typed".
echo -n "A3R69SQKTZ9KPW8MXYD6W373V7GHJEDJQW++” | \ openssl enc -base64 -A -d | \ openssl enc -base64 -aes-256-ctr -nosalt -k "some password"
I was originally planning to use a seven-word diceware password, but perhaps ten words would be better so as to match the original 128-bit entropy of the Secret Key. I would not use the password itself anywhere else, and I would generate and memorize a new one if I ever needed to rotate my Secret Key.
Finally, I should note that I hope to find a way to make this work securely with the standard tools, so that I can decrypt my Secret Key, and recover from hardware loss in the widest variety of possible circumstances. One appealing thing about OpenSSL in particular is that there are Javascript implementations that I could use on a trusted iPhone to do the decryption, obviating the need to install and use OpenSSL on some unknown machine. I was able to get the above encryption and the corresponding decryption to work using Forge, for example.
Is this a secure way to store my Secret Key?

Investment Thesis: Why investing in POW.TO (Power Corporation of Canada) now is an investment in a future high market cap Wealthsimple IPO

I have seen some posts here wondering about the wisdom of investing in Wealthsimple's parent company, Power Corporation of Canada (POW.TO). I decided to look more into this, decided to post my investment thesis and research on why I, long-term, I have a very bullish view on Wealthsimple (and by extension POW.TO), and why I think this is equal to being an early stage investor in a Wealthsimple IPO.

Overview

Current Products

Investment Rounds

WS has had many successful rounds of funding and a vote of confidence from both its parent POW.TO and other multinationals investing in fintech.

Growth

WS has been extremely aggressive in targeting growth areas. Wealthsimple’s CEO Mike Katchen has said he wants to position the company as a “full-stack” financial services company. Here are some of their current expansion areas:

People

WS is run by young guys who have big ambitions and plans for the company. Sometimes there are CEOs with the intangibles that can really drive a company's growth, and from what I can glean, I think the company has a lot of potential here in terms of vision by its leaders. You can read more about the founders here
Quote sfrom CEO: Michael Katchen
On being laughed out of the boardroom when he proposed his idea for Wealthsimple:
Within the last month, Wealthsimple has also opened an office in London. Katchen said a push into the European market is “possible” as its “ambitions are global,” but right now the Canadian and U.S. markets are “a lot to chew.” It is a far cry from the company’s early days: Katchen said he was “laughed out of the boardroom” for laying out a global vision for Wealthsimple at a time when they had just $1.9-million in funding and 20 users***.***“It’s a very personal mission of mine since I moved back from California, to inspire more Canadian companies to think big and to think internationally about the businesses that they’re building,” he said. (reference)
On Wealthsimple's growth in the next 10-15 years:
Wealthsimple has more than $5 billion in assets under management and 175,000 customers in Canada, the U.S. and U.K. He sees that reaching $1 trillion 15 years. “We’re just getting started,” he said. “Our plans are to get to millions of clients in the next five years.” (reference)

Brand Value and Design

Out of all the financial services company in Canada, WS probably has the most cohesive and smart design concept across its platforms and products. I see the value in Wealthsimple in not just the assets they have under management, but also the value of the brand itself. I mean, what kind of financial services company makes a blog post about their branding colour scheme and font choices? Also see: Wealthsimple’s advertisement earlier this year capturing 4 million views on Youtube.
There also seems to be very strong brand awareness and brand loyalty amongst its users. I think a lot of users find WS refreshing as a financial services company because they cut through the "bullshit" and legalese, and try to simply things for the consumer. They also have their own in house team of designers and creative directors to do branding, design, and advertising, and this kind of vertical integration is generally unheard of in the financial services industry (reference).

Potential IPO?

Interestingly, the CEO’s ultimate goal is to take the company public. Therefore, I see an investment in POW.TO as being an early stage pre-IPO investor in WS (reference).
The goal is to get Wealthsimple to the size and scale to go public, something that Katchen said he’s “obsessed with.” While admitting that an IPO was still a few years down the road, Katchen already has a target of $20 billion in assets under administration (AUA) as the tipping point (the company recently announced $4.3 billion in AUA as of Q1 2019) (reference)

Future Potential

Ultimately, my sense is that a spun-out Wealthsimple IPO eventually be worth a lot, perhaps even more than POW.TO at some point. Obviously the company is losing money right now, and no where even close to an IPO, and there are still many chances that this company could flop. The best analogy that I can think of is when Yahoo bought an early stake in Alibaba (BABA) back in the early 2000s, and there came a point where their stake in BABA was worth more than Yahoo’s core business. I think an investment in POW.TO now is an early investment in WS before it goes public. (reference)

Risks

The X Factor

What I find particularly compelling about WS is they have aggressively positioned themselves to be a disruptor in the Canadian financial services industry. This is an area that has traditionally been thought to be a firewall for the Big Five Banks. There is also a generational gap in investing approaches, knowledge, and strategy, and I think WS has positioned itself nicely with first-time investors. My sense is that COVID-19 has also captured a huge amount of young adults with its trading app in the last few months, who will continue to use Wealthsimple products in the future. The average age of its user is around 34. As younger individuals are more comfortable with moving away traditional banking products, I think Wealthsimple’s product offering offers significant advantages over its competitors.

Power Corp is a Good Home

Currently POW.TO is trading at $26.30, down from its 52-week high of $35.15. I see an investment in POW.TO now as fairly low risk, and while WS grows, and there is also the added benefit of a high dividend stock. One of the most confusing things I found about Power Corp was its confusing corporate structure where there were two stocks, Power Financial Corp, and Power Corp of Canada. Fortunately, in Dec 2019, they simplified and consolidated the stocks, which also simplifies the holding structure of WS. I currently see POW.TO has a good stock to hold as well if you're a dividend holder, with a dividend of 6.86%.
Also, POW.TO is patient enough to bide its time and let its investment in WS grow, unlike a VC that might want to sell it quick. For example, the reason why WS went with POW.TO instead of the traditional VC route is explained here:
Katchen has directly addressed the question of why he did not go the traditional VC route recently, saying: If you are a business that requires perhaps decades to achieve the vision you have, well, if you’re not going to be able to generate the kind of returns that venture needs is they will force you to sell yourself, they will force you to go public before you’re ready, or they will just forget about you because you’re going to be a write off. And so Katchen essentially flipped Wealthsimple to Power Financial. Power is well known as a conservative, patient, long-term investor. (https://opmwars.substack.com/p/the-wealthsimple-founders-before)
My belief is there is a huge unrecognized potential in POW.TO's massive ownership stake in WS that will be realized maybe 5-10 years down the road. I didn't really dive into the financials of POW.TO in relation to WS's performance, because the earnings reports do no actually say much about WS. I'm aware of the main criticisms that POW.TO is a mature company and dividend stock that has been trading sideways for many years, and the fact that WS is currently not a profitable company. I am not a professional investor, and this is just my amateur research, so I certainly welcome any comments/criticism of this thesis that people on this subreddit might have! (Please be gentle on me!).

Edit: Thanks to all for the thoughtful comments about POW's size and other holdings relative to WS, and that WS is basically a tiny, tiny portion of POW.TO. Again, I am just an amateur investor, appreciate we can discuss these points on this forum! And fair point is taken that WS's margins are also razor thin right now. I guess I am buying more into the CEO's vision of growth (see this video about his confidence about getting to $1 trillion AUM (!) in the next 8 years), rather than the current financial status or size of the company. Call me delusional if you will :P.
In any case, glad that I was able to flush out these thoughts with the CanadianInvestor community! I do wonder if WS's expansion into a broad-based financial services company (into mortgages, credit lines, and life insurance) might increase their profitability and size over time. https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/wealthsimple-targets-canada-s-richest-with-grayhawk-partnership-1.1301993

Early-stage startup, first developer opportunity, seeking advice

tl;dr: early-stage startup opportunity to be first developer, unsure if it's reasonable to ask for a high salary and 1% stake.
I'm a senior dev with some decent experience, ~9yrs in the industry, worked at amazon, msft in the past and most recently a couple really successful startups in NYC.
I was recently presented an opportunity to work for an early-stage startup, that is well funded and registered as a Trust Company - afaik it takes a lot of capital to start a Trust company so it doesn't feel that risky. The company is in the blockchain space, but I am purposely leaving out details to get non-biased opinions. Let's just say, I really value the blockchain space, especially working on crypto platforms, exchanges, and anything related to fin-tech (it's an exciting space and the technical problems are very interesting imo). Also, maybe to preempt some questions, the person backing this entire thing is a billionaire and I think if he wants something bad enough he will fund it, so I'm not all that worried about funding. (Lastly I'm okay with this not working out - if it flops, I have enough cash/assets to keep myself afloat, and I have no problem looking for another job.)
If interviews go right this week, I have the opportunity to be dev #1 and will be wearing lots of hats. I know this sort of role is entirely full-stack and will require really digging in and figuring things out. I have some full-stack experience in both coding up frontend/backend/oauth and launching on aws, so I know I will be fully utilized in as many areas as possible before hiring more engineers.
My questions are:
- What is a reasonable salary to ask? My last role I was making $180k, and I feel I am worth $180k- $200k but knowing how well funded this company is, and how many roles I'll be filling (sre, dev, infosec, and probably contributing to hiring, product/design, etc) I believe I should feel comfortable asking for $220k - is this reasonable? Am I over-valuing myself?
- What is a reasonable stake to ask for? I previously worked in a startup 2 years ago where the first dev had a 2% stake, and when the company was bought for $2.1B - he cashed out nicely! I was thinking about asking for a 1% stake - is this reasonable? Another way I was thinking to negotiate is to say I'm willing to forego 40k for 2% stake - so 180k + 2% stake - same question - is this reasonable? Am I over-valuing myself?
- Any other general advice/guidance is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

How long does it take for my balance to unlock?

Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.

How can I prove that I sent a payment?

The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with fiat?

How can I quickly exchange my Monero (XMR) for Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are multiple ways to exchange your Monero for Bitcoin, but first of all, I'd like to remind you that if you really want to do your part for Monero, one of the simplest ways is to get in touch with your merchant/service provider and request for it to accept Monero directly as payment. Ask the service provider to visit the official website and our communication channels if he or she needs help with system integration.
That being said, the community has been recommending two services in particular, XMR.TO and MorphToken. These services are only recommendations and are operated by entities outside the control of the Monero Project. Be diligent.

How do I mine Monero? And other mining questions.

The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.

2. Wallet: CLI & GUI

Why I can't see my balance? Where is my XMR?

Before any action there are two things to check:
  1. Are you using the latest available version of the wallet? A new version is released roughly every 6 months, so make sure you're using the current release (compare the release on GetMonero.org with your wallet's version on Settings, under Debug info).
  2. Is your wallet fully synchronized? If it isn't, wait the sync to complete.
Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.
You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.
If this is not a sufficient answer for your case and you're looking for more information, please see this answer on StackExchange.

How do I upgrade my wallet to the newest version?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Why does it take so long to sync the wallet [for the first time]?

You have decided to use Monero's wallet and run a local node. Congratulations! You have chosen the safest and most secure option for your privacy, but unfortunately this has an initial cost. The first reason for the slowness is that you will need to download the entire blockchain, which is considerably heavy (+70 GB) and constantly growing. There are technologies being implemented in Monero to slow this growth, however it is inevitable to make this initial download to run a full node. Consider syncing to a device that has an SSD instead of an HDD, as this greatly impacts the speed of synchronization.
Now that the blockchain is on your computer, the next time you run the wallet you only need to download new blocks, which should take seconds or minutes (depending on how often you use the wallet).

I don't want to download the blockchain, how can I skip that?

The way to skip downloading the blockchain is connecting your wallet to a public remote node. You can follow this guide on how to set it up. You can find a list of public remote nodes on MoneroWorld.
Be advised that when using a public remote node you lose some of your privacy. A public remote node is able to identify your IP and opens up a range for certain attacks that further diminish your privacy. A remote node can't see your balance and it can't spend your XMR.

How do I restore my wallet from the mnemonic seed or from the keys?

To restore your wallet with the 25 word mnemonic seed, please see this guide.
To restore your wallet with your keys, please see this guide.

3. Wallet: Ledger

How do I generate a Ledger Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

4. Nodes

How can my local node become a public remote node?

If you want to support other Monero users by making your node public, you can follow the instructions on MoneroWorld, under the section "How To Include Your Node On Moneroworld".

How can I connect my node via Tor?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

The next DeFi game changer

Fantom (FTM) will be the next possible 1 billion+ marketcap. I am well aware that many members of the crypto community consider Fantom a scam but please don't sleep on this one. Here's why:
Fantom offers a DAG-based blockchain protocol for instant transactions and infinite scalability at near zero costs.
Fantom is the first fully decentralized layer 1 solution with an aBFT consensus model called lachesis. https://fantom.foundation/lachesis-consensus-algorithm/
Fantoms Opera chain, released in December 2019 is capable of 3k tps with a finality between 1 and 2 seconds with transaction costs way below 1 cent. It is secured via proof of stake. The tps are currently limited by the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM). Fantom is developing its own VM which will solve the bottleneck and expand the tps beyond 20k tps.
Opera Chain will be used by the Afghan Government to track drugs to prevent them from counterfeiting. https://www.forbes.com/sites/lukefitzpatrick/2020/07/06/fantoms-blockchain-tech-is-being-trialed-in-afghanistan-to-solve-a-surprising-world-health-organization-who-problem/amp/
Opera Chain has full smart contract support in solidity and thus existing dAPPS can easily ported from the Ethereum Blockchain within minutes. https://fantom.foundation/what-is-fantom-opera/
Fantom is building the first fully functioning DeFi suite outside of the Ethereum ecosystem with lending, borrowing and synthetic trading with over 170 assets on Opera chain and almost zero fees with near instant transaction settlements. https://fantom.foundation/defi/
They are continuosly adding different tokens to the ecosystem, which can be used as collateral to mint the stablecoin fUSD which can be used to trade synthetic assets. Already announced supported tokens are: Ethereum Classic (ETC), Okex Token (OKB), Ontology (ONT) and Tokoin (TOKO) and of course Fantoms own token FTM. This is the chance for all existing tokens to get their share in DeFi and brings a lot of awareness for Fantom in the different communities. See announcements here: https://fantom.foundation/blog/
FTM is also the only government token of the Opera chain. They recently used the token to let the community vote for the staking model which will be changed in a few weeks due to that vote which cuts the inflation rate significantly. Look here for more info: https://fantom.foundation/fluid-staking-a-staking-proposal/
More than 75% of the total supply are already minted and almost 70% are being staked and therefore off the exchanges already.
One of the best things: The founder of Yearn Finance (YFI) Andre Cronje has been involved in the project for more than 2 years and is still the lead technical advisor. This guy actively was involved in building the consensus + DeFi module.
The DeFi stack called Fantom Finance is expected to launch anytime in the coming weeks. Don't miss out in this one.
It has a current marketcap of just 40 million. Therefore FTM is still trading below ICO price!

Interest on card stake (Jade/Indico)

I'm planning on upgrading from Ruby to Jade/Indico and wondering if that's a smart thing to do if I don't have a Netflix account or need for lounge access. Basically this depends on whether or not I get interest on the staked 10k CRO. Optionally I could just put the 10k on Earn and keep the Ruby card.
  1. Some older posts claim 6% interest, other 16% interest on the card stake
  2. Will the interest be paid out even after the first 6 months if I keep the 10k CRO staked?
  3. Are card stake interests clearly listed somewhere and how likely are they to change?
The main reason I started to doubt the 16% card stake interest were these client support answers to my queries:
Q: "Do I get interest for the CRO I've stacked for my Ruby Steel card? Is the interest rate the same for the stacked amount if I decide to upgrade to Jade Green? Thanks."
A: "When you stake CRO for a certain card, you only get the benefits for the card. IF you want to earn interest on your CRO you can deposit in our Earn program, for which I have attached an article with all of the information you will need."
Q2: " 'CRO Stake Rewards: Receive CRO at 16% p.a. for 10,000 and 18% p.a. for 100,000 and 1,000,000 tiers while these CRO are staked.' ( from the crypto.com link) does this not contradict your statement? I'm aware of the earn function, but it seems that the 10k card stake also produces interest. Am I wrong?"
A2: "When you have staked the CRO you only get the benefits of the card plus the additional interest in Earn. When you make a stake on our Exchange platform you get interest based on the amount of CRO you have staked."
Any comments on these client support answers regarding the card stake interest? Thanks for the help Crypto.com community.

FintruX - 991k mcap - Top Singapore Credit Loan System launching into DeFi

FintruX was recently picked by CNBC as one of their top crypto startups!!
See here https://twitter.com/CNBC/status/1194248859096113152?s=19
The team is now about to take a deep plunge into DeFi with the release for their new TruX platform! A platform that will allow the world's first implentation of Staked Finance!
To explain it easily, unlike Maker, Compound & Curve, instead of opting for only staking rewards from your cryptos, Staked Finance will allow you to seamlessly use them for collateral for stablecoin loans; even while still earning reasonable APY!!
This double incentive is a huge game changer to the DeFi space!!!
i.e. A rudimentary hypothetical analogy of FintruX Staked Finance at work will be like falling into lean times in the short term due to this Covid19 disaster, and then being forced to take a FintruX loan for your business or household needs while collaterizing (not selling) your crypto assets! Yet, at the very same time, still earning APY interests on those assets pending the time your repay your fiat loan!
Another important point to mention is that FintruX has been obscured and in the shadows all this time & unseen because of binance's FTX token, another huge & much younger project accidentially adopting a similar ticker (FTX) !!! Yes, there are two FTX tokens out there, and both are killer blockchain projects!!!
The FintruX team have partnered with Microsoft, AWS, Robocoder & the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance as well as many more!!!
Being at 991k marketcap and having 95% of its total supply already circulating in the Fintrux ecosystem is all indications this is ready to fly & grossly undervalued!
FintruX is available on top exchangers: IDEX, Bancor, Hitbtc, Liquid Exchange and just recently Uniswap! Here are the market links from CMC and Coingecko.
Suicide stack: 1000 ftx!
